Far North Forging Forward

Just a quick update on what we have been up to over the last month or so.

In Term 3 this year we had Computers in Homes running at Kerikeri Proctor Library, Umawera School and also at REAP in Kaitaia, in total we graduated 29 from these 3 venues.  It was a frantic and busy term as term 4 is turning out to be also.  We were lucky enough to have Peter Jackson the Editor of The Northland Age attend our event at REAP and subsequently had a lovely article printed in the paper the same week with colour photos of all three groups graduated (below).  We also had Adele Gardner our 2020 Far North ICT Trustee and Te Hiku Community Board member attend at REAP.

We are currently working with 3 groups at REAP Kaitaia through Term 4 2016 and also we have a group at TKKM o Whangaroa starting up now (they will be training twice a week to finish by Christmas).  Here is a photo of one of our REAP groups getting started, hard at work:

I also had the pleasure of catching up with several ex student at the Kaitaia Street Festival celebrating Adult Learners Week where we had a stall.  One in particular Tania Sneddon, had a stall of her own and is now working for Kaitaia Budgeting Services and is over the moon that her new found computer skills enabled her to not only have the courage to apply for that job but the skills required.  Look our for her story in our next Annual Report.

So, we are very busy up here in the Far North, making things happen!  Look out for my next update very soon when we graduate our next groups of whanau.
